I’ve recently come to the conclusion that my tastes have exceeded my income. I also recently made the decision not to purchase non-essentials unless I absolutely love them. This has created quite the predicament, particularly with clothing and the like.
A prime example of late has been shoes and bags. I am in need of a good weekend bag as I’ve been traveling to Chicago quite a bit. Not a single bag I’ve loved has been less than $200. Now, that’s not really that much money. But I’m a person who’s basically never spent more than $50 on any given item that isn’t a durable good (i.e. computer or couch or similar) in my entire life. And really the bags I’ve really loved have been upwards of $500 - a heart-arrack inducing amount for me.
This has led me to not being able to shop in normal stores like Macy’s, and I’ve found myself increasingly attracted to places like Sak’s and Nordstrom. As a kid from a blue-collar family who was one of the first to get a college degree, this is all very uncomfortable for me.
So, because of all this, I’m either buying things in thrift stores or not at all. The problem of course being that soon I’ll need something I can’t find at a thrift store. And then I’ll be spending a lot of money. Oy vey.
Today, I spent a solid 8 hours killing dandelions and digging grass out of the cracks in my driveway. If there was ever any doubt in my mind that the government wants us to own homes to control us, it is gone.
The worst part? I feel really good about how nice my lawn is going to look this summer after I lay down more seed. That’s how you know they’ve really gotcha.
(Mostly kidding)
Must. Stop. Laughing. Sides. Hurting.
Major shoe lust. Too bad I’m not one to deal with the pain of heels. Or the $365 price tage of these.

YO! If you’re in Cincinnati, and you enjoy eating delicious food for less than it should cost, you should get out to one of these fine restaurants this weekend.
$26.11 for THREE courses of amazing food (well, at most of them).
My recommendations in order from MUST to Probably should:
The Bistro
Iron Horse
The Rookwood
Lavomatic
Prima Vista
Trio
Seriously, this is a great deal, and you should go get some good food. Not to mention you’ll be supporting locally owned restaurants, so you can even feel good about spending the money.
DO IT!
I’ve been saying for years that honey cures my sore throats/sinus infections, to which most people just say whatever kid, you just want an excuse to drink tea with too much honey in it. While that part may be true, it turns out I wasn’t entirely wrong.
According to a number of studies, most honey, even processed honey, has at least some anti-bacterial properties. And medical grade honeys, like the Manuka variety discussed in this BBC article from 2004, can apparently even heal wounds.
SCIENCE!

Mind = blown. I can make a crisp-tastic pizza without buying a $50 pizza stone?! Sign me up! Definitely trying one of these bad boys out soon.
